A major leadership transition is underway at the Electoral Commission (EC) following the sudden resignation of one Deputy Chairperson and the retirement of another.
Dr Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, has officially resigned from his post, effective 31st July 2026.
Concurrently, the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired from active service.
The high-profile departures were confirmed on Monday, 15th June 2026, by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series briefing.
Return to Academia
According to Kwakye Ofosu, Dr Asare’s decision to step down is driven by a desire to return to his roots in higher education.
In his resignation letter, Dr Asare noted that he is exiting the commission to resume his academic career and research at the University of Ghana.
He also expressed his profound gratitude to the President and the citizens of Ghana for the privilege of serving at the country’s election management body.
Replacement Processes Underway
To prevent a leadership vacuum, the government has swiftly initiated the protocol to replace both key officials.
Ofosu disclosed that a nominee has already been forwarded to the Council of State for consideration.
The replacement timeline will follow a distinct sequence.
The Council of State is currently reviewing a nominee to succeed the retired Samuel Tettey, and an official announcement will be made immediately following their review.
Once that phase is complete, a separate, subsequent process will be launched to fill the vacancy being left by Dr Bossman Asare ahead of his 31st July 2026 exit.
Further details regarding the identity of the nominees are expected to be released in the coming days.
