The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria after a viral video surfaced online showing him assaulting a suspect, law enforcement officials confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
Zakaria is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is scheduled to be arraigned to face charges related to the assault.
The violent incident, which was widely circulated across social media platforms, triggered public outrage and prompted immediate action from police leadership to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
In addition to the criminal proceedings against Zakaria, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has launched a comprehensive internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police assured the public that any individuals, including law enforcement personnel, found culpable or complicit in the assault will face strict disciplinary action in accordance with police service regulations.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to upholding professional standards, human rights, and accountability, maintaining that lawlessness and abuse of power within or outside the service will not be tolerated.
