Three police officers and two military personnel have been arrested among seven suspects for their involvement in a multi-city armed robbery syndicate that allegedly swindled and robbed an international investor of $450,000.
The security personnel—identified as Police Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga, and military Lance Corporals Eugene Akurugu and Emmanuel Arko—were arrested following intelligence-led operations on 23rd and 24th May 2026.
The Ghana Police Service has officially interdicted the three law enforcement officers as investigations into the criminal network deepen.
The arrests, coordinated by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), come in the wake of a targeted attack against Mousa Bamba, an Ivorian investor.
Bamba was reportedly lured to Dzorwulu, Accra, under the pretence of buying six kilograms of gold.
Upon arrival, the rogue security officers allegedly posed as active-duty CID operatives and military personnel, holding him at gunpoint before making off with his funds.
Beyond the high-profile gold heist, police officials state the syndicate is linked to a wider string of armed attacks across Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi, routinely targeting cash, gold, and mercury shipments.
Four civilian accomplices have also been swept up in the investigation.
Initial inquiries led to the arrests of Mohammed Umaro and Gabriel Sewornu, followed by the weekend arrests of Justin Oduro, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari.
All suspects are currently in custody assisting the Ghana Police Service, while operations remain active to track down the remaining members of the network.
