Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mimi Duah, has publicly endorsed former Minister of State and Member of Parliament for Ewutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, for the position of National Women’s Organiser ahead of the party’s upcoming national executive elections.
Ms Duah’s endorsement adds significant momentum to Hawa Koomson’s bid as the opposition party restructures its national leadership to prepare for the 2028 general elections.
According to Ms Duah, the NPP requires a tested, assertive, and grassroots-oriented leader to unify and energise the women’s front, qualities she firmly believes Hawa Koomson possesses.
”We need a Women’s Organiser who has been tested, who is bold, who understands grassroots women, and who can lead us to victory in 2028. Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson is that leader,” Ms Duah stated in a declaration supporting the campaign.
In her endorsement, Ms Duah described Hawa Koomson as a motherly figure capable of resolving internal disputes, fostering reconciliation, and bringing aggrieved party women together into a unified front.
She further cited Koomson’s extensive administrative and political trajectory, having progressed from Constituency Women’s Organiser to Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister, as crucial experience for managing the party’s national women’s structure.
Ms Duah also emphasised Koomson’s established network and business contacts, noting that her capability to secure logistics, funding, and capacity-building training would directly empower regional, constituency, and polling station women’s officers.
With the NPP currently in opposition, Ms Duah underscored the need for a courageous and assertive leader to inspire and mobilise party members nationwide.
Hawa Koomson is competing alongside other contenders for the key internal post as the NPP prepares to elect officers who will lead the party’s reorganisation efforts toward the 2028 polls.
