Marking the posthumous birthday of their late founder and visionary, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has donated essential supplies to the Kumasi Central Prison and the Kumasi Children’s Home.
The exercise, spearheaded by the Bompata Branch in Kumasi alongside several regional branches, included donations of food items, provisions, toiletries, sanitary pads, bottled water, beverages, and an undisclosed cash sum.
Leadership of the church noted that the annual gesture honours the late leader’s enduring legacy of philanthropy and service to the underprivileged.
Speaking during the presentation, the Head Pastor of the Bompata Branch, Sofo Osei Kwadwo, emphasised that charity remains a core spiritual obligation for the church rather than a mere periodic gesture.
”Our father set a pace of giving and caring for the needy that we cannot allow to die,” Sofo Kwadwo said, adding, “Though he is no longer physically with us, he lives on through his works and legacy. We are committed to honouring his vision through annual acts of charity that alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable.”
The items are expected to provide immediate relief and supplement government provisions for inmates at the prison facility and residents at the care home.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Kumasi Central Prison, the Regional Commander, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) James B. Mwinyelle, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the faith-based organisation.
DDP Mwinyelle observed that while the state provides baseline resources for correctional facilities, assistance from civil society and religious institutions remains vital for maintaining humane conditions.
He also urged the church leadership to collaborate with the Ghana Prisons Service on youth outreach initiatives focused on crime prevention and legal awareness.
”We urge the church to open its doors to our officers so we can educate young people on behaviours that could lead them into conflict with the law,” DDP Mwinyelle said, stating, “Preventing youth incarceration is a shared responsibility.”
