The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman for allegedly issuing death threats against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama in a series of viral social media videos.
The suspect, identified as Mahama Aminat – popularly known on social media as Akosua Serwaa Minat – was apprehended on Wednesday, 20th May 2026, during a joint law enforcement operation at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti region.
According to police sources, the arrest followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving CVET analysts and operatives from the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.
The team tracked down Aminat 24 hours after launching an official investigation into the widely circulated footage.
In the videos, which were primarily posted and shared on the video-sharing platform TikTok, the suspect allegedly used highly offensive language directed at the President.
Police officials stated that she went beyond insulting remarks by explicitly threatening the life of the Head of State and actively inciting public violence against both the President and the First Lady.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that Aminat is currently in police custody.
Charges relating to offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace and issuing death threats are being prepared, and she is expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction in the coming days.
The police administration has reiterated its commitment to monitoring digital spaces, warning that the anonymity or reach of social media does not exempt individuals from the laws governing free speech, public order, and national security.
