Firefighters have contained a fire at the No Weapon Building near Kumasi Kejetia Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
The fire was reported at approximately 2:55 p.m after smoke was observed emanating from a stall stocked with bales of second-hand clothing.
Local traders initially attempted to extinguish the flames before emergency services arrived.
Responding swiftly to distress calls, firefighters from the Kumasi Kejetia Market fire station arrived on the scene.
They were later supported by personnel from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) fire station to suppress the blaze.
About five heavily packed bales of second-hand clothing were destroyed, while the rest of the inventory was saved.
The affected stall was not connected to the electricity grid, raising questions about the cause of the fire. Some traders suggested that an abandoned cigarette might have ignited the fire.
However, DOIII Ebenezer Opoku, Fire Commander at Kejetia Market stated that the exact cause is still unknown and investigations are underway.
