Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu III Monday, 6th July 2026, selected Nana Ama Bonsu as the 15th Asantehemaa of the Asante Kingdom at the Manhyia Palace.
Nana Ama Bonsu succeeds Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who died on 7th August 2025 at the age of 98.
In accordance with revered Asante traditions and customary practices, the new Queen is expected to choose her official stool name tonight.
The appointment followed a structured customary procedure initiated on Monday morning when Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II summoned key traditional leaders to the Manhyia Palace.
The delegation included the Kokofuhemaa, Kenyasehemaa, Nana Asantehemaa Kontimso ne Nkonson, the Otumfuo Gyaasehene, and the Oyoko Abohyen Abusuapanin.
On being informed of the nominee’s selection, the high-ranking delegation was sent to her family residence, opposite the Manhyia Palace, to summon her formally.
Nana Ama Bonsu was then escorted on foot to the Asantehemaa’s Palace amid widespread jubilation, traditional drumming, and the customary sprinkling of white powder, symbolising victory and celebration.
She was officially seated on the Asantehemaa throne, where Otumfuo’s Linguist, Baffour Kantankrakyi, announced her appointment in the presence of traditional elders.
Following the announcement, she received homage from sub-queen-mothers, elders, and well-wishers.
Some Queen-mothers and elders of the Asantehemaa stool expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for the appointment and pledged their unwavering loyalty and service to the new Asantehemaa of the Asante Kingdom.
