The Ministry of the Interior has issued an urgent public safety advisory following heavy rains and severe flooding that struck several parts of the country on Monday morning, 29th June 2026.
The government has urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution and restrict their movements until environmental conditions improve.
Shelter-in-Place Directives
As detailed in the official advisory statement, citizens are being requested to remain in their current locations if they are safe.
Those who are safely at home are urged to stay indoors, while workers and individuals currently at other safe alternative locations are advised to stay put until travel is officially deemed safe.
Unnecessary movement should be completely avoided.
Furthermore, authorities have issued a strict warning to both motorists and pedestrians against attempting to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, noting that rapidly rising waters pose an immediate danger to life and property.
Emergency Operations Underway
In response to the crisis, a coordinated multi-agency emergency force has been deployed across affected areas to monitor the situation, manage traffic, assist stranded individuals, and conduct rescue operations where necessary.
This deployment includes personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
Residents living in flood-prone communities have been explicitly instructed to relocate to higher ground immediately and cooperate fully with emergency personnel.
Government Commitment and Contact Channels
The directive, signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), assures citizens that public safety remains the government’s highest priority.
”The Ministry extends its concern to all persons affected by the flooding and assures the public that every effort is being made to provide the necessary assistance and ensure public safety,” the statement reads.
The Ministry has urged the public to remain calm, avoid relying on unverified information, and utilise official channels for updates.
Members of the public in need of emergency assistance or wishing to report persons in distress are encouraged to contact the Ghana Police Service at 18555 or 112, the Ghana National Fire Service at 192, or the National Disaster Management Organisation at 112.
