Leadership representing traders at the New Kejetia Market and major commercial hubs across the Kumasi metropolis have paid a formal courtesy call on the newly installed Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, at the Manhyia Palace to pledge their loyalty to her stool.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation following the audience, the chairman of the Kumasi City Market, Mr Johnson Ankrah, declared that the trading community is united behind the new Queen Mother, whom he described as the traditional custodian and mother of all markets in Asanteman.
”The Queen Mother is the traditional owner of all market lands across our city. As traders, we feel deeply honoured and proud to welcome her to the throne, and we consider it a solemn duty to formally register our readiness to serve and support her reign,” Mr Ankrah stated.
Pledging the market leadership’s determination to enforce all traditional directives issued from the Manhyia Palace, Mr Ankrah issued a strong warning to traders regarding workplace decorum and public behaviour.
He cautioned market executives, shop owners, and vendors to maintain high ethical standards, warning that any conduct tarnishing the image of Kumasi traders will face swift disciplinary action.
”We are strongly appealing to all traders to comport themselves with dignity. Anyone who engages in behaviour that brings the name of the trading community into disrepute will not be spared. We must protect the respect and integrity that Kumasi traders are known for,” he said.
Mr Ankrah charged all market members to accord the Asantehemaa the highest reverence, emphasising that attendance at traditional calls, palace assignments, or official invitations must be treated with promptness and utmost seriousness.
”Whenever the Queen Mother requires our attention, whether by formal invitation or traditional assignment, every trader must comply fully without hesitation. Her leadership is vital to the prosperity and harmony of our markets,” the chairman stressed.
