The 2024 parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Kwadwo Addai Dapaah, has been elected as the party’s new constituency chairman, unseating incumbent David Kwasi Hededzi.
Mr Dapaah secured 700 votes out of the 1,316 total valid votes cast, while Mr Hededzi garnered 616 votes in the closely contested internal poll.
Following his victory, Chairman Dapaah pledged to unify the constituency leadership and grassroots supporters ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Drawing inspiration from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) surprise victory in the Hohoe constituency in 2020, he expressed confidence in turning the traditionally safe NPP seat of Bantama into a competitive victory for the NDC.
”Unity is the key. That was my campaign message, and the delegates have responded accordingly,” Mr Dapaah stated.
He added: “I know once in 2020, the NPP took a seat in Hohoe. I’m promising the Bantama NDC that in 2028, we will work hard together. We will call for unity. We will call for hard work. And in 2028, we will emerge victorious.”
The newly elected executive committee, joining Chairman Dapaah, includes Vice Chairman Ben Awaregya, Secretary Adam Abubakar, Deputy Secretary Anwar Sadat Abubakar, Organiser Collins Kwame Gyasi Acheampong, Deputy Organiser Roger Akwaana Abugah, Youth Organiser Isaac Swanzy, and Deputy Youth Organiser Emmanuel Kankam.
Others included Women Organiser Priscilla Aikins Mensah, Deputy Women Organiser Mariam Abubakar, Nasara Coordinator Musah Anafu, Treasurer Eugene Gyebi Owusu, Deputy Treasurer Eric Boakye, Communication Officer Jennis Gyasi Benewaa, and Deputy Communication Officer Ibrahim Isaka.
