The Ashanti Regional Chairmanship aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has expressed strong confidence in winning the ongoing regional executive elections, projecting a victory margin between 62 and 65 per cent.
Speaking at the voting centre, Jubilee Park, Dr Kokofu commended the Electoral Commission (EC) and security agencies for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere, though he appealed to electoral officials to speed up voting to accommodate the large turnout of delegates.
Dr Kokofu is one of 34 candidates competing for 11 executive positions in the party’s stronghold.
Approximately 1,022 delegates are expected to cast their ballots in the election, where Dr Kokofu faces stiff competition from a prominent contender, former Afigya Kwabre South NPP Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, widely known as COKA.
”We haven’t recorded any incident which would have marred the whole process,” Dr Kokofu said. “The EC has been doing its job, and the police presence is very welcoming. However, I think there is a need for the process to speed up.”
Projecting an optimistic outcome, the regional chairman hopeful stated that he would dedicate his victory to the NPP and its efforts to win the 2028 general elections.
”Well, the New Patriotic Party will be the winner. Since I’m going to be crowned the next regional chairman, I dedicate the victory to the New Patriotic Party,” Dr Kokofu said. “Normally, I do not juggle with percentages, but somewhere between 62 and 65 per cent will suffice.”
Highlighting post-election strategy, Dr Kokofu emphasised that party reconciliation and unity would be his immediate priority once new officers are elected.
Citing his experience as a former Regional Reconciliation Secretary for the Ashanti Region, along with his background as a legal practitioner and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) expert, he assured party members of his capacity to resolve internal grievances.
”Patching up in unity will be the agenda, and I hope we all get on board,” he said. “The reconciliation effort that’s been planned by the flag bearer and the leadership of the party, I very much concur with, and I will be an integral part of that. As an ADR expert, I have the capacity and the propensity to do that.”
