The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Abdullai Zakaria, is receiving emergency medical treatment after being violently attacked by students on campus over allegations that he buried a newborn baby on the school grounds.
Mr Zakaria sustained serious head injuries during the assault yesterday, which involved cutlasses.
He was initially rushed to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for advanced care.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi and Chairperson of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, confirmed the attack during an interview with Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah, stating that the headmaster suffered deep lacerations to the head.
Ms Appiah Kannin said the security council will convene an emergency meeting today to deliberate on the incident while awaiting a comprehensive briefing on the precise cause of the violence.
The outcome of the meeting will determine whether the institution will be temporarily shut down to prevent further unrest.
Armed police personnel have been deployed to the campus to restore order, secure the premises, and prevent any escalation of violence.
The police have launched an investigation into both the infanticide allegations and the attack.
