A major step toward transforming healthcare and tertiary education in the Ahafo Ano South West District has been taken following a joint site inspection for a proposed US$30 million Public-Private Partnership (PPP) development in Kunsu, Ashanti Region.
The inspection aimed to assess land suitability for an integrated project that will establish a modern Nursing and Midwifery Training College—operating as a degree campus of the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College—and complete the district’s long-awaited Agenda 111 Hospital.
The facility will be executed under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing (EPC+F) model via a partnership between DODCARS LBG, Globe Engineering Limited, and the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly.
Stakeholders at the inspection included assembly officials, financiers, technical partners, and traditional leaders led by the Kunsuhene, Nana Dr Agyemang Badu Duah I.
Dr Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, Chief Executive Officer of DODCARS LBG, confirmed that the earmarked land is suitable for the investment.
He explained that incorporating the stalled Agenda 111 Hospital into the broader educational development creates a unified healthcare and training hub for the region.
The multi-million-dollar complex will feature an eight-unit two-storey classroom block for the new training college, a four-storey student hostel with a 1,200-bed capacity, and a five-storey residential block containing 24 apartments for staff, lecturers, and health professionals.
The entire infrastructure will be supported by an integrated solar power system that provides uninterrupted electricity, alongside the completion and operationalisation of the Kunsu Agenda 111 Hospital.
Evans Kwadwo Afful, Deputy Managing Director of Globe Engineering Limited, assured residents that the project is slated for completion within 12 months of commencement.
Highlighting the company’s ongoing infrastructure work in Accra, Takoradi, Koforidua, and Sunyani, Afful added that the construction phase will generate significant local employment for artisans, labourers, and suppliers.
Officials from the district Assembly praised the partnership as a critical driver for economic and social growth.
Abubakar Sedik, District Chief Executive, noted that he initiated discussions with DODCARS LBG shortly after taking office to expand access to tertiary education and health capacity in the district.
Pledging the assembly’s full institutional backing, Sedik emphasised that the degree-granting campus will bridge critical skill gaps while stimulating the local economy.
Traditional leadership also threw its weight behind the initiative.
Nana Dr Agyemang Badu Duah I expressed gratitude to the development partners, pledging that the traditional authority will safeguard the project site and release additional land if needed for future expansion.
Once operational, the complex is expected to establish Ahafo Ano South West as a regional centre for medical training, clinical care, and socio-economic development.
