Ministry of Education has ordered a full-scale investigation into the tragic death of a University of Cape Coast (UCC) student whose body was recovered at a beach in Cape Coast.
According to an official press release from the Ministry dated 14th June, 2026, the deceased has been identified as Ms Innocentia Avinu, a Level 200 student at the university.
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has officially directed UCC authorities to collaborate extensively with the Ghana Police Service to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the student’s untimely passing.
In the statement signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister, the Ministry expressed “deep sadness” over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to Ms Avinu’s family, friends, and the entire UCC academic community.
Government officials have additionally urged the general public to remain calm and allow law enforcement and university authorities to conduct their investigative process unhindered.
