A suspect is in police custody assisting with investigations following a sudden fire outbreak that ripped through the Accra Central Police Barracks on Wednesday.
No casualties were recorded in the incident, according to an official statement released by the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the scene and successfully brought the situation under control.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, alongside members of the Police Management Board and the Accra Regional Police Commander, visited the location shortly after the outbreak to assess the extent of the damage.
The police leadership team has since initiated measures to ensure that necessary emergency support and relief are provided to all affected personnel and residents.
While authorities have confirmed that a suspect is currently detained in connection with the incident, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Forensic and police investigators remain on the scene to determine the origin of the blaze.
Supt Ms Juliana Obeng, the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra region, expressed the police administration’s appreciation to the GNFS team and the responding officers for their swift collaborative action in managing the emergency.
The Ghana Police Service stated that the investigation is actively ongoing and assured the public that any further developments regarding the incident will be communicated duly.
