The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially declared Wednesday, 27th May 2026, as a public holiday for all Senior High and Technical Schools (SHS/SHTS) across the country to mark the annual Eid ul-Adha celebration.
In an official directive issued from the GES Headquarters in Accra, school heads have been instructed to permit students wishing to observe the Islamic festival to leave campus, provided they return by the end of the same day.
The directive, outlined in an official letter dated 25th May 2026, was signed by the Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access (Q&A), Munawaru Issahaque (PhD), on behalf of the Director-General.
To ensure total compliance, the GES has instructed all Regional Directors of Education to rapidly disseminate the information to Municipal and District Directors of Education (MMDEs), as well as to the individual Heads of Schools within their respective jurisdictions.
Heads of Schools are required to grant day leave to students who wish to celebrate the Eid festivities outside of school grounds, under the strict condition that all participating students return to their campuses by the close of day on Wednesday.
