Popular Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known as LilWin, has publicly reacted to a recent Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) crackdown on illegal mattress manufacturing, revealing that his own mattress contained substandard materials.
LilWin’s reaction follows a GSA enforcement operation on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Jin Yuan Jia mattress manufacturing company in Afienya.
During the raid, officials arrested several foreign nationals for allegedly producing substandard mattresses that failed to meet national safety and quality standards. The company was also accused of defying a court order issued against its operations in October 2025.
Following viral videos of the raid, LilWin shared a video of himself cutting open his personal mattress after experiencing chronic morning body aches.
Upon inspection, the actor discovered that the core of his mattress was packed with rigid polystyrene—commonly used as protective packaging for home appliances—rather than the approved, flexible polyurethane foam required for standard bedding.
”Every morning I wake up feeling body pains as if I have been beaten,” LilWin explained in the video.
“I saw the news online about the factory shutdown, and they mentioned the mattresses were made with materials like the rubber used in packaging televisions. So, I decided to cut open my mattress to check.”
Expressing concern over consumer safety, the actor called on regulatory bodies and government agencies to intensify market surveillance and tighten inspections on manufactured goods sold to the public.
”Why would someone use packaging rubber as foam?” LilWin questioned. “The government must be very vigilant about the products allowed onto the market because these materials can be harmful to people’s health.”
The GSA has yet to release a formal statement regarding the specific distribution network of the confiscated mattresses or the total volume of substandard goods currently in the Ghanaian market.
