The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects, including Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, following a shooting incident on 12th June 2026, involving the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon Sarah Adwoa Safo.
Israel Kwadwo Safo turned himself in at the Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, 22nd June 2026.
He was subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, where he is currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations.
Following his surrender, police executing search warrants on Safo’s vehicle and his residence in Kwabenya uncovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
Officials retrieved two Glock pistols—one of which is legally registered in Safo’s name—alongside 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, and several loaded magazines.
Expanded police operations into the shooting later resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects, identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.
All three suspects remain in police custody.
According to the police, they are scheduled to be arraigned and presented before the court today, 23rd June 2026.
The police have not yet released a statement regarding a suspected motive behind the shooting or the condition of the former lawmaker.
