The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Abubakar Sedik, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman, Chairman Koo Broni, have personally financed critical infrastructure projects in the district to improve healthcare delivery and local transport.
Using personal funds, the two local leaders broke ground for the construction of a new weighing centre and nurses’ quarters in the Kunsu Dotiem community on Monday, 10 August 2026.
In addition, they sponsored the grading and reshaping of a 15-kilometre road network connecting Kunsu to Kunsu Dotiem, utilising government District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machinery.
The contractor supervising the health projects has been given a three-month deadline to complete and hand over the facilities.
The intervention addresses severe operational hurdles in the area.
Healthcare workers posted to Kunsu Dotiem lack housing, while child-weighing services are regularly conducted outdoors under trees.
Furthermore, the 15-kilometre road had heavily deteriorated with deep potholes and gullies, disrupting emergency medical transport to Mankranso Government Hospital, endangering pregnant women and emergency patients, and causing significant post-harvest crop loss across 15 farming communities along the corridor.
Explaining the decision to fund the projects privately, Abubakar Sedik said he and Chairman Koo Broni chose to step in rather than wait for central government allocations while residents suffered.
This effort forms part of a broader local initiative by the pair, who financed four local projects last year and four additional projects this year to support local development.
For his part, Chairman Koo Broni urged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to partner with their respective party executives to accelerate grassroots development.
He also appealed to the Roads and Highways Minister to consider prioritising the deplorable road networks in the district, especially Kunsu Dotiem, and to construct them as he, together with the DCE, augments the government’s efforts.
