The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has strongly condemned the recent assault on the headmaster at Obuasi Senior High Technical School, calling on students across the region to refrain from mob justice, violence, and the destruction of public infrastructure.
Speaking at the launch of the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Kumasi Academy (KUMACA), Dr Amoakohene appealed directly to students to embrace dialogue and lawful grievance procedures through their Student Representative Councils (SRCs) rather than resorting to vandalism or physical attacks on faculty.
”Mob justice is one that our laws frown upon, and we are in an institution to be taught our laws, our tenets, and our beliefs as a country,” Dr Amoakohene said. “In any event where there are any disagreements or suspicions, as future leaders, we are encouraging you to follow laid-down procedures in seeking justice and redress.”
Addressing the Obuasi incident directly, the Regional Minister apologised to educators on behalf of the regional authority and assured the public that law enforcement has taken an active interest in the case to ensure those responsible face justice.
Dr Amoakohene highlighted recent preventive measures taken during the departure of final-year students of Kumasi Academy, including deploying security personnel alongside the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong to prevent post-examination vandalism.
He urged teachers to remain vigilant regarding campus security red flags while maintaining a nurturing environment for students, reminding them that discipline should ultimately aim to shape, not alienate, the youth.
Turning to state investments, Dr Amoakohene cautioned that multi-million-cedi educational developments funded by the government, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA), and alumni associations risk going to waste if students do not safeguard school property.
”For us as a government, we believe so much that education is the future of Ghana. A country may have natural resources, infrastructure, and technology. Still, ultimately our greatest resource is our people,” he stated, encouraging students to honour their parents and the state by focusing on academic excellence.
