The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti Region, Pearl Patricia Ankrah, has expressed grave concern over rising youth violence in the district, reporting the matter to National Security for urgent intervention.
Speaking at the district’s Second General Assembly meeting, Ms Ankrah described the situation as alarming, noting that clashes between rival youth groups have resulted in death and injuries.
Hotspots identified for violence and power struggles, now handed over to security agencies for investigation, include Ankaase, Adumakase Kese, Swedru, Mpobi, Ejuratia, Ebom-Bomfa, and Wawase.
In an interview with Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah, the DCE revealed that these groups are organised by age and gender, ranging from 14-year-olds upwards and including female factions.
Warning of the long-term threat to the district’s future, Ms Ankrah urged parents to guide their children, cautioning that anyone arrested will face the full rigour of the law.
