Police Arrest Senior High School Teacher Following Viral Assault Video
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old teacher from Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School after a video showing the assault of an 18-year-old female student went viral on social media.
The suspect, identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, was apprehended by the Nyinahini District Police Patrol Team on 8th June 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m.
According to an official press release from the police command dated 9th June 2026, the arrest followed formal reports regarding the assault of the victim, identified as Patience Chibu.
Incident Details and Escalation
Preliminary police investigations reveal that Apaflo, who also serves as a caretaker at the school’s hostel, confronted Chibu and several male students over allegations of misconduct within the residential facility.
During the confrontation, a misunderstanding escalated, leading to the physical assault of the female student.
The altercation quickly sparked outrage among the student body.
In retaliation, some students allegedly pelted stones at the suspect and contacted local youth from the town, inviting them to the hostel in an attempt to attack the teacher.
The regional police reported that the volatile situation was successfully brought under control through the timely intervention of a police patrol team.
Current Status and Police Response
The victim has been issued a Police Medical Report Form to undergo medical examination and treatment for any injuries sustained during the incident.
Meanwhile, Apaflo remains in police custody and is currently assisting law enforcement with their ongoing investigations.
“The Ashanti Regional Police Command urges the public to remain calm and use lawful and peaceful means in resolving grievances and disputes,” stated ASP Augustine Antwi, who signed the release on behalf of the Head of the Public Affairs Unit.
