The Chief Executive of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has urged striking staff members to return to work immediately in the “supreme interest” of patient welfare and national health.
This appeal comes through an official memorandum dated 18th June 2026, amid an ongoing industrial action threatening healthcare delivery across central and northern Ghana.
While expressing gratitude for the staff’s solidarity during this period, Dr Baidoo emphasised that the needs of vulnerable patients must take precedence over labour disputes.
He announced that he is bypassing local negotiations and has delegated the final resolution of the dispute to higher authorities, specifically the Minister of Health, Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP), and the KATH governing board.
“I need you all to return to duty in the supreme interest of Ghanaians and our valued patients, whilst I defer the outcome and directions to the supreme wisdom of the Hon Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Board of KATH,” Dr Baidoo stated.
The Ministry of Health’s involvement underscores the severity of the disruption at KATH, one of Ghana’s largest tertiary referral hospitals.
Historically, prolonged strikes at KATH have placed significant strain on peripheral district hospitals and interrupted critical specialised medical services.
Dr Baidoo reaffirmed his alignment with government leadership, expressing his ongoing commitment to the directives of the President of Ghana.
