Richard Angaboa Anaba, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, has officially filed his nomination forms to contest for the party’s Oforikrom constituency communication officer position in the Ashanti Region.
Declaring his intention to succeed outgoing Communications Officer Jerry James Suka, popularly known as “Papa Jay,” Mr Anaba pledged to expand media engagement, increase party visibility, and reduce the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral dominance in the constituency.
”I think that very good work has been done, a very good legacy has been left behind, and you need someone who understands that legacy project,” he stated, adding, “I understand that trend, and I want to succeed him, continue, and build upon it so that the constituency remains appealing.”
Central to his platform is the “Youth in Communication Policy,” a strategy designed to build human capacity and leverage digital tools for both political advocacy and economic empowerment.
Highlighting his predecessor’s tenure, Mr Anaba noted, “In his time, he raised about three people to join the Ashanti regional communications team. One of my ambitions is to expand that—let’s get at least 10 by the end of my tenure to raise good communicators for the NDC.”
Recognising that modern political communication extends beyond traditional media, he explained that his policy focuses on equipping young party members with practical skills in research, information technology, and content creation.
”Communication is not always about sitting on the radio and being a communicator,” Mr Anaba explained, stating, “Content creation is really providing people with a good livelihood. One of my visions is to train people in content creation because every politician needs a blogger and a content creator. This gives them self-employment skills they can use to build their lives.”
Addressing electoral performance, he pointed to past progress while setting ambitious targets for upcoming elections.
”In his time, he brought the opposition’s votes down from 60,000 to 45,000,” Mr Anaba said, adding, “My main aim is to further reduce that 45,000 to around 28,000 or 30,000 votes. After that, my goal will be taking the seat from the NPP in the Oforikrom constituency.”
As the internal endorsement process continues across party branches, he appealed to delegates for their backing ahead of the polls.
”I have the experience,” Mr Anaba said, adding, “They should give me the nod, and they will see that Richard Anaba was not just making promises, but is ready to work and make Oforikrom strong.”
