Jerry James Suka, the Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Oforikrom Constituency, has officially submitted his nomination forms to contest for the position of Deputy Ashanti Regional Communications Officer.
Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Mr Suka, popularly known as “Papa Jay”, expressed full confidence in his readiness for regional leadership, citing a proven track record of opposition activism and effective communication.
”I have fully assessed myself based on my achievements as Constituency Communications Officer,” Mr Suka stated, adding, “I take credence and motivation in the words of Professor Lumumba: ‘it is not how long you serve, but how well you serve.’ For that reason, I see myself as the best candidate for the position.”
Anchoring his bid on operational experience, Mr Suka highlighted his extensive involvement in front-line party communication in the Ashanti Region during the party’s tenure in opposition.
Over his tenure, he stated that he led and organised 13 major press conferences and eight street demonstrations, including a major regional demonstration on 24 April 2024, which he described as a defining moment in setting political agendas.
Through consistent critique of government policy, he said he worked to keep public interest aligned with NDC priorities.
According to Suka, effective political communication relies on a proactive stance: “What distinguishes a good communicator from the rest is the ability to hold press conferences and demonstrations to set agendas while in opposition.”
Mr Suka pledged to work collaboratively with whoever emerges as the main Regional Communications Officer, committing to preserve and build upon the foundation laid by former communication leaders in the region.
”Anyone who wins as the main, I am fully prepared and ready to work to support that person,” Mr Suka affirmed, stating, “This will ensure that the legacies of our predecessors, Honourable Abass Nurudeen and Honourable Kamel, are continued unabated.”
