Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Hon. Frank Yeboah, has officially launched the maiden edition of the Atwima Nwabiagya North Teachers’ Awards (ANNTA) and inaugurated its governing committee during a ceremony at Osei Tutu Senior High School.
The initiative aims to recognise, honour, and incentivise educator excellence across the constituency, focusing initially on primary-level educators before expanding to higher tiers of education.
Under the theme “ANNTA —Celebrating Excellence, Honouring Dedication, Inspiring the Future,” the maiden awards scheme will exclusively target Kindergarten and Primary Six teachers to highlight the importance of early childhood and foundational education.
Prioritising Early Education
Addressing key stakeholders, including the District Director of Education, school heads, union representatives, security personnel, local leaders, and students, Mr Yeboah described teachers as the cornerstone of national development.
“Our teachers do more than teach lessons. They inspire dreams, build character, discover talents, and shape the leaders of tomorrow,” Mr Yeboah said, citing Nelson Mandela’s assertion that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world.
Explaining the focus on early educators for the inaugural edition, Mr Yeboah emphasised that foundational years are where literacy, numeracy, discipline, and character are formed.
“Recognising and motivating teachers at this critical stage is an investment in the future of every child and, ultimately, the future of Atwima Nwabiagya North,” he added, noting that Junior High and Senior High School teachers will be integrated into subsequent editions.
Integrity, Logistics, and Community Support
The MP charged the newly inaugurated ANNTA Steering Committee to maintain strict standards of integrity, transparency, and merit throughout the selection process.
Mr Yeboah urged educators to take pride in their work, stating, “Your classroom is where the future of Atwima Nwabiagya North is being built,” adding “Every child you inspire is a seed planted for the future.”
“Where merit is rewarded, excellence is encouraged,” he stated.
To support educational infrastructure and local skills development alongside the launch, Mr Yeboah announced the donation of mono-desks to Osei Tutu Senior High School and industrial machinery to selected vocational beneficiaries in the district.
The District Director of Education commended the MP for his continued interventions in the constituency’s education sector.
Expressing traditional support for the initiative, Nana Owusu Apofo Twumasi, representing the Chief of Akropong, announced that educators in the area would be offered land at subsidised rates to assist with their personal development.
