A total of 34 candidates have been cleared to contest for 11 regional executive positions in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming elections in the Ashanti region.
While all 35 aspirants who appeared before the vetting committee were initially cleared, one candidate vying for the Deputy Regional Secretary position subsequently stepped down.
The race features intense head-to-head battles for the Chairman and Communication Officer posts, with two candidates competing for each position.
Meanwhile, the contests for First Vice Chairman, Youth Organiser, and Nasara Organiser are heavily contested with four candidates each.
The positions of Second Vice Chairman, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, and Treasurer have each drawn three contenders.
Following the successful conclusion of the two-day vetting process, the stage is set for the election on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Commending the process, Chairperson of the Vetting Committee, Rita Talata Asobayire, described the vetting as a success and urged all candidates to conduct decorous, insult-free campaigns.
