Thirty-five aspiring candidates have successfully filed their nomination forms to contest various regional executive positions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region, following the close of nominations today.
Out of the total number of aspirants, seven are female and 28 are male.
The three-day nomination window, which opened on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, officially closed on Friday, 17 July 2026.
A breakdown of the filings reveals a highly competitive race across all positions.
Two aspirants are vying for the top Chairmanship slot, while four candidates filed for the 1st Vice Chairman position and three for the 2nd Vice Chairman role.
For the remaining executive positions, three people filed for Secretary, four for Deputy Secretary, three for Organiser, three for Women’s Organiser, four for Youth Organiser, three for Treasurer, four for Nasara Organiser, and two for Communications Officer.
Addressing the media immediately after the close of nominations, Kwaku Atta Sarpong, a member of the NPP Regional Elections Committee, disclosed that vetting has been provisionally scheduled for Monday, 20 July and Tuesday, 21July 2026.
Mr Sarpong added that these dates are subject to final confirmation, expected during the committee’s official meeting tomorrow.
The regional race is fiercely contested, particularly the chairmanship position, where the party’s former Chairman for Afigya Kwabre South, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah popularly known as COKA, and former Member of Parliament for Bantama, Dr Kwabena Kokofu, are set to clash.
