Minister for the Interior, Hon Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has extended his deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the Dagbon Kingdom following the passing of their Overlord, His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II.
In a heartfelt statement, the Member of Parliament for Asawase described the revered traditional leader’s passing as a profound national loss and the conclusion of a significant chapter in Ghana’s traditional governance.
“The passing of His Royal Majesty marks the end of an era defined by wisdom, dignity, and exemplary leadership,” Hon Muntaka said.
“As a revered traditional ruler and custodian of Dagbon’s rich cultural heritage, he devoted his life to the service of his people, championing peace, unity, reconciliation, and the advancement of the Kingdom,” the Minister further stated.
Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II passed away after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy deeply rooted in the consolidation of peace and stability.
Enskinned in January 2019, he successfully brought an end to the protracted 17-year Dagbon chieftaincy dispute, uniting the Abudu and Andani royal gates.
Reflecting on this impact, Hon Muntaka emphasised that the late Overlord’s leadership brought a renewed sense of purpose and calm to the region.
He noted that the King’s statesmanship and humility would continue to serve as a beacon of inspiration for traditional leadership across the country.
The lawmaker offered Islamic prayers for the departed monarch, asking Almighty Allah to grant him mercy and place him in Al-Jannatul Firdaus (the highest paradise).
He further extended his prayers to the Chiefs, Elders, and the general public, asking for strength and solace for the traditional area during this difficult period of national mourning.
Meanwhile, customary rites have commenced at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, and the eldest son of the late King, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abukari, has been outdoored as the Regent to oversee the affairs of the Kingdom during the transition period.
