The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has proposed to the government that the first Friday of every month be officially designated as National Sanitation Day to maximise institutional and public compliance.
The Mayor had a media interview, focusing on clean-up exercises across the Kumasi Metropolis.
According to Mr Boadi, migrating the national cleanup exercise from its current slot on the first Saturday of every month to the first Friday would drastically improve participation.
He observed that today’s exercise saw a much higher turnout and deeper engagement from both private and public sector institutions compared to previous Saturday iterations, largely because corporate and government workers are already active during the workweek.
Expressing profound satisfaction with the civic response on the opening day of the two-day nationwide cleanup campaign, the Mayor described the turnout as a major step in the right direction.
By formalising a dedicated weekday National Sanitation Day, the Mayor argued, the government can effectively institutionalise a culture of cleanliness, ensuring every citizen and organisation plays a consistent role in safeguarding their environment.
