The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly has summoned 17 individuals and institutions for various sanitation offences following a nationwide clean-up exercise.
The offenders, who face imminent prosecution, were caught violating local environmental bylaws during a massive community sanitation drive.

Among those cited is the Shell filling station at Afrancho, which was issued a summons for accumulating large volumes of refuse on its premises.
According to authorities, several business owners were found operating while their shop frontages and surroundings remained unkempt.

This directly contravened the district’s ongoing public education campaigns and directives regarding civic cleanliness.
The enforcement occurred during a coordinated community exercise that saw active participation from the police, local churches, non-governmental organisations, District Assembly staff, and private citizens.
Together, volunteers cleared heaps of refuse and unclogged heavily silted gutters and drainage systems across the district.
Speaking to Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah during the exercise, the District Environmental Health Analyst, Kwame Kusi Agyemang-Badu, confirmed that the offenders are primarily located in the Buoho and Afrancho enclaves.
He warned that the assembly is processing these offenders for court on Monday to serve as a strict deterrent to others who plan to exhibit the same disregard for environmental laws.
Echoing these sentiments, the District Coordinating Director, Yakubu Baba Seidu Kamara, strongly condemned the recalcitrant behaviour of some residents.
He urged the public to adopt better waste management habits and cooperate with the assembly to ensure an impeccably clean and healthy district.
