The Bono Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an incident of unlawful property damage at the Drobo Traditional Council’s Palace in the Jaman South Municipality.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday morning, is linked to an escalating chieftaincy dispute between local factions.
According to an official police statement released on Thursday, 21st May 2026, a group of approximately 15 men wearing red headbands besieged the palace on 19th May 2026, at around 9:10 AM.
The group reportedly damaged the main entrance gate to the palace forecourt and the facility’s main door in an attempt to take possession of the building.
Police Response and Seizure of Weapons
Following a formal complaint filed by Nana Tanor Bediako, the Krontihene of the Drobo Traditional Council, police deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the right section of the palace’s main entrance gate completely detached and lying on the ground.
During the intervention, law enforcement personnel retrieved several firearms as exhibits, including three pump-action guns loaded with 14 rounds of BB ammunition and one single-barrel gun recovered from individuals identified as the Omanhene’s people.
Roots of the Conflict
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the violence stems from a deep-seated misunderstanding between factions aligned with the Omanhene of the Drobo Traditional Council and the Drobo Queen Mother.
Members of the Bosea family, who are aligned with the Queen Mother, allegedly orchestrated the demonstration to block the Omanhene from installing new sub-chiefs.
The family claimed they had secured a formal injunction against the installation from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, further alleging that the Omanhene has gone into hiding to evade being served with the court order.
The situation remains under active investigation as police work to maintain order and hold the perpetrators of the property damage accountable.
