The Ministry of the Interior has officially declared Wednesday, 27 May 2026, a statutory public holiday across the country in celebration of Eid al-Adha.
In a press release issued on Friday, 15 May, the Ministry informed the public that the day marks a significant Islamic festival and must be observed as a national holiday.
Under the Public Holidays Act, the declaration grants citizens and workers a day of rest to commemorate the festival, which honours the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
The sector minister, Hon Muntaka Mubarak, in the official statement, urged the public to observe the day in accordance with the law.
