Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has revealed that five of his family members have been a victim of the novel coronavirus in a recent interview.
According to the Education Minister, since the virus gained grounds in the country, five of his family members have contracted it and are receiving medical attention.
The member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, was speaking with host of Peace FM Kokrokoo morning show, after he was discharged from the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) after catching coronavirus and he admonished Ghanaians not to joke with the deadly disease because it really kills.
He explained that there have been several cases at the hospital and sometimes Covid-19 patients die since their immune system could not fight the virus despite been admitted at the facility and given medication.
The hardworking Minister was reported to have been infected with the virus days after the party’s parliamentary primaries. On June 24, 2020, the medical doctor was said to have been in isolation at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC) after a voluntary test, having had symptoms of coronavirus such as headache.
Public Relations Officer for the Education Ministry, Kwasi Obeng-Fosu, confirmed the news on Onua TV. According to his narration, the minister returned from his constituency after his acclamation as the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South constituency and started experiencing headache.
