The ‘one-week’ commemoration service for the late Chief Executive Officer of Forestry Commission, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as ‘Sir John’ came off yesterday, (July 22) at his hometown, Sakra Wonoo near Kumawu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The ceremony which was organized in an atmosphere of solemnity and under strict adherence to social distancing protocols, brought together staff, family members and loved ones of Sir John who came to mourn his passing.
Some dignitries who attended the ceremony were Vice-President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bwumia and his wife Samira , the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Bosiako (Chairman Wontumi), and the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia among others.
Also present were the selected staff of the Forestry Commission who could not hide thier shock and utter grief about the death of their CEO.
As announced , the final burial rites where Sir John would be laid to rest has been scheduled to take place on March 2021.
The demise of Mr Afriyie occurred on July 1 2020, after being on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra.
He died at the age of 63.
